Enjoy Dallas Before You Leave

Spend the day hanging out in your hometown one final time. There’s enough variety to match any mood:

Eat well before you go!

Dallas has more restaurants per capita than New York City. Looking for an authentic Dallas dining experience before you go? Eat at one of the many popular food trucks in the area or indulge in the diverse restaurant options. Stop by your favorite Indian, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, African, Taiwanese, or Persian eatery before you go to give your taste buds a splendid send-off.

Go shopping

From luxurious uptown shops to sprawling suburban malls, the Dallas area has more than enough shopping to satisfy your desires. Three of the most popular shopping sites are the Galleria, NorthPark Center and Highland Park Village. All three of these well-known retail centers provide the ultimate shopping experience with hundreds of high-end designer favorites.

Take in some arts and culture

If it’s the arts you crave, swing by an area museum before you leave. Check out one of the largest art museums in the U.S., the Dallas Museum of Art. If you’re interested in modern and contemporary art, the Nasher Sculpture Center houses some of the finest collections in a 55,000 square-foot space enclosed entirely by glass. There’s also the African American Museum, which is the only one of its kind in the Southwest and provides an exceptional cultural experience. Or you can visit The Museum of Biblical Art and find inspiration in more than 2,500 works by artists like Andy Warhol, John Singer Sargent and Marc Chagall.

Try out these kid-friendly attractions

Allow the kids to explore some of the city’s top attractions one last time:

  • Perot Museum of Nature & Science
  • The George W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum
  • Dallas Arboretum
  • Dallas Zoo
  • Dallas World Aquarium
  • Six Flags Hurricane Harbor
  • Zero Gravity Amusement Park
  • National Scouting Museum (official museum of the Boy Scouts of America)

Enjoy the great outdoors

If you want to get outdoors, Dallas provides plenty of opportunities for that, as well. White Rock Lake is a great location for hiking, biking, picnicking, and kayaking. Admire Dallas’ natural beauty by visiting the Katy Trail, a historic trail built on an old railroad line. In the heart of downtown Dallas, the Belo Garden is a 1.7-acre slice of serenity you’ll want to check out one more time.

Take in a game

Dallas is home to the NFL’s Cowboys, the NHL’s Stars, the NBA’s Mavericks and the MLB’s Texas Rangers. You could also drive about 20 minutes from downtown and watch FC Dallas, an American professional soccer club, at Toyota Stadium.

Hang out at Dallas landmarks

To make up for the lack of natural landmarks, Dallasites created many structures recognized throughout the city. You can’t miss 55-foot-tall Big Tex, the mascot of the annual State Fair of Texas. One of the more emotional landmarks is the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, where you can learn about the events leading up to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Other significant landmarks include:

  • Dallas Cattle Drive Sculptures
  • Reunion Tower
  • Pioneer Plaza
  • The Pegasus
