Moving from the South to the Midwest

Orlando is known for its warm weather and amusement parks. You might wonder about the weather and what you’ll do for fun when moving 950 miles north to Columbus, Ohio.

A fun fact about Columbus is that it was the site of the first self-service supermarket in the Midwest: Big Bear. The store, which opened in 1934, often had a real trained bear who frequently performed tricks for customers before retiring to the Columbus Zoo.

While the chain of Big Bear stores is no longer open, you’ll still find everything you need in Columbus, from boutiques to farmers' markets to discount big-box stores.
