Which city is bigger?

When moving, it’s natural to wonder if your new city is larger than your previous one. In the case of Minneapolis and Austin, the numbers can get tricky.

When you compare populations within the city limits, Austin is about twice as large as Minneapolis (974,000 vs. 430,000). Looking at metro residents and population density puts Minneapolis more crowded, with 3.7 million compared to only 2.4 million in Austin.

A smaller metro area doesn’t mean fewer opportunities. Austin has a strong job market in education, financial services, government, technology and much more in the city and surrounding areas.

Leave the snow behind in Massachusetts

Massachusetts winters are much colder than those in Texas. Average January lows are 7 degrees in Minneapolis, but the average lows are typically above freezing at 38 degrees in Austin. Snowfall is rare in Austin, compared to over 50 inches in Minneapolis.

Rainfall is similar in both cities, around 35 inches, but summers are much warmer in Austin, with average highs in the mid-90s, about 10 degrees warmer than Minneapolis.

Take advantage of the warm summer weather with a trip to the beach since Austin is only 200 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

Live music for every genre

The longest-running live music television in the country, “Austin City Limits,” began in the city in 1974 with featured performer Willie Nelson.

Austin also has more than 200 live music venues showcasing country, rock, folk, blues, jazz and more throughout the city.

Whether you prefer to stick to one music genre or sample many, chances are you’ll find something to make you tap your toes or sing along in Austin.
