Driving the nearly 1,900 miles from New Orleans to Los Angeles will take you around 27 hours, not including any stops along the way. Both cities are the most populous in their states.

Overall temperatures are similar, with Los Angeles varying from the mid-40s to the mid-80s and New Orleans usually staying between the mid-40s and the lower-90s. You’ll get a bit more sunshine and less humidity in LA. 

Emergency preparedness

In New Orleans, the leading natural threat is hurricanes. You’ll also need an emergency plan in Los Angeles, but it will be for earthquakes and wildfires instead. Southern California experiences around 10,000 earthquakes each year, although most are small ones.

Los Angeles is known to be a home base for actors, artists, dancers, filmmakers, musicians and writers, so it’s no surprise it’s often called “the creative capital of the world.” Other employment opportunities include bioscience, business, food manufacturing, information technology, logistics, manufacturing and trade.  

The cost of living is higher in LA than in NOLA, but the average salaries are also higher than national averages. Over 2,500 public and private schools serve students in grades K-12. College offerings include the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Southern California and Loyola Marymount University.
