Will the U-Haul truck be big enough?
While there are guidelines for each truck based on the size of your home, keep in mind that that you might need a larger truck if you have special circumstances, such as:
- A heavily furnished home
- Extra storage space to pack (attics, basements, garages, sheds, storage units, etc.)
- Large or long pieces of furniture
In the same sense, if your home furnishings are scarce, you might need a smaller truck than what U-Haul suggests. By choosing a rental truck, there’s always a possibility you won’t have enough space, or you might end up paying for more space than you need.

Is there a better alternative to figuring out U-Haul truck sizes?
Need something more flexible than a U-Haul truck? U-Pack® offers a great solution. As a DIY-moving service, we offer two equipment options for long-distance moves: moving trailers and ReloCube® moving containers. Quotes are based on the size of your home, but unlike U-Haul, our space is flexible, and you only pay for what you use. If you end up needing more or less space in our 28-foot moving trailer, you can use it (down to a minimum of 5 linear feet). And any unused ReloCubes will be picked up at no charge.
U-Pack won’t leave you guessing what size truck you need, and you won’t have to drive the moving equipment!
