  • Plan your move-in day. Every university or apartment complex has different move-in processes. Check with your housing office for specific dates, times and rules. This will help you choose the best moving option and ensure everything goes smoothly. Use this step-by-step guide to keep track of everything.  

  • Bring (or hire) help: Extra hands means you can focus on getting settled without missing out on important events. A crew of movers can handle unloading with your parents while you attend welcome day activities. 

  • Pack wisely. Dorm rooms are small, so you have to be strategic when deciding what to take with you. Use our college packing checklist to make sure you have everything covered without overpacking. 

  • Secure space for parking. Ask the housing office or your landlord about parking guidelines. If your college or apartment doesn’t allow overnight parking for moving containers, we offer convenient unloading at a nearby service center.  

  • Use available resources. Check with your rental office to see if there are service elevators, carts or dollies you can reserve. Or, consider investing in these items since you’ll likely be moving frequently in the next few years.
