Why customers choose a trailer

A trailer offers flexibility to scale your move up or down while keeping transportation in professional hands.

It’s a popular choice for people who prefer not to drive a rental truck, want flexibility in how much room they use, have furniture, appliances and large household items, or need more space than a moving container can provide.

Flexible space

Trailers have more space than a 26-foot and a 10-foot rental truck combined! But you don’t have to use it all — just use what you need.

Common questions about U-Pack trailers

What is a moving trailer?

A moving trailer is a large freight trailer used to transport household belongings during a long-distance move. Unlike a tow-behind trailer, U-Pack's moving trailer is delivered to your home, loaded by you and transported by a professional driver.

Learn more about how freight trailer moving works in our complete guide.

Do I have to drive it?

No. U-Pack delivers and transports the trailer for you. Once you're finished loading, we'll pick it up and move it to your destination.

Can I use the entire trailer?

Yes! If you need all 28 feet of trailer space, it's yours to use. If you don't need that much room, that's OK too. The trailer gives you the flexibility to move as much or as little as you need.

What happens to empty space?

Once you're done loading, you’ll install a bulkhead (divider wall) after your belongings to separate them from the rest of the trailer. Any unused trailer space will be filled with commercial freight traveling through ABF's network.

Do I pay for the whole trailer?

No. Unlike a rental truck, you only pay for the trailer space you use. We measure the space your belongings occupy in linear feet, so your price reflects the amount of room your move actually requires. Learn more about trailer pricing.

Can I store items in a trailer?

You can add up to 120 days of storage to a U-Pack trailer move, based on availability. Get more details about adding storage to your move.

What’s the best way to load it?

The best loading strategy depends on what you're moving, but a good rule of thumb is to load heavy items first and distribute weight evenly throughout the trailer.

For more advice, including how to maximize space and protect your belongings, see our loading tips.
